My name is Natalie Setareh. I’m a professional makeup artist and makeup teacher, and I like to provide helpful and practical content here on the blog. As a loose follower of astrology, I thought it would be fun to do a little series on my blog for each of the zodiac signs, starting with Leo beauty rituals!
While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to astrology or makeup, you may find that there are common characteristics that unify people with similar star signs. Most astrology articles describe personality traits, exploring how these traits influence our beauty rituals may be interesting. Since each zodiac sign has vastly different traits and characteristics, the beauty rituals you may be drawn to will also vary.
And don’t forget, one sign doesn’t fit all! One of the biggest things I learned in the early days of dabbling in astrology is that we all have three signs to consider:
☀️ Our sun sign (the one that is most commonly known).
🌔 Our moon sign (based on where in the world you were born).
⬆️ And our ascending sign (based on what time you were born).
If you have Leo in any of the above signs, this content may really resonate with you!
Now, before we dive in, I want you to know that if you don’t know your skin type or how to wear makeup, some of this advice might not make sense. Following generic beauty advice blindly can result in wasted time, money, energy, or all of the above. When you ‘participate’ in the beauty industry but don’t reap the benefits of feeling confident and empowered, you may feel like it’s just not meant for you.
As a makeup artist, my focus is on teaching (or re-teaching) people how to wear makeup in a practical, easy-to-understand way. I always start with a less-is-more approach because it’s easier to add more than to remove too much. Everything I teach starts with an understanding of your skin type. I created a free skin type guide for you to download and use to help craft a simple skincare routine.
Only once you know your skin will the rest of the beauty advice you find here on this blog or anywhere else really make sense.

So let’s dive into the vibrant sign of Leo. Fun fact: my sun sign puts me on the cusp of Leo, and my moon is in Leo!
Leos are governed by the sun and are known to radiate confidence and creativity. Leo beauty routines should reflect your regal nature, combining opulence with a touch of drama. Leos are not afraid of the spotlight; in fact, many household names share this sign, including Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Viola Davis, and Tom Brady (to name a few).
So even if you’re not a Leo, I’m sure you know one. You might be able to spot one based on these characteristics!
It should be no surprise that Leo self-care and beauty rituals are all about embracing confidence and radiance, allowing the inner lion or lioness to shine through. As a Leo, your natural charisma and creativity are your greatest assets. Your beauty routine should enhance these qualities rather than overshadow them.
For Leos, makeup isn’t just about physical appearance. It’s about the confidence that comes from knowing how to present yourself authentically. This confidence can profoundly affect your life, influencing everything from social interactions to personal growth. Whether you choose to wear makeup or not, the key is to feel empowered in your decision.
While Leos are often associated with bold and glamorous looks, it’s important to remember that not all Leos desire the same aesthetic. The goal is to feel bold, glamorous, and radiant, regardless of how much or little makeup you wear. This could mean a subtle glow achieved through a skincare routine or a dramatic eye look – whatever makes you feel most confident and true to yourself.
A solid skincare regimen is fundamental for Leos. A radiant complexion allows your natural confidence to shine through, with or without makeup. Having a solid skincare routine that works for you and one you can follow consistently is paramount. If you are unsure where to begin, check out this post I wrote called “Skincare for Beginners: The Ultimate Guide.” You might even end up bookmarking it!
If you don’t wear makeup, the natural highlight from a healthy, glowing complexion is all you need. You do you, Leo!
If you wear makeup, listen up!
This is one of my favorite products that I use personally and also in my professional makeup kit. It’s great to use under or over makeup, providing that radiant “from within” look:
Leo makeup is bold and dramatic! What is considered bold and dramatic varies from person to person, Leo to Leo.
If you love rocking a full face of makeup and full glam every day, go for it!
If you’re just starting out or don’t know where to begin, focus on enhancing one or two of your favorite features.
For example, if you love your eyes, experiment with a dramatic cat-eye (a more advanced technique) or reach for vibrant eyeshadows with warm undertones that complement your fiery nature. Duo/multi-chrome shadows could be really fun! Read up on how to use these amazing shape shifting shadows here >
A great universal, warm-toned eyeshadow that works on Leos of all skin tones and eye colors is copper! Here’s a great threesome palette to that will work on all skin tones and create a wide variety of both eyeshadow and glowy look.
If you’re all about accentuating your lips, choose a rich, bold color that makes you feel like the star of the show.
**Buyer Beware!**
While TikTok and Instagram can be great sources of makeup inspiration and tutorials for tech-savvy Leos, if you don’t know what you’re doing, they could lead to poor execution. Read why makeup tutorials don’t really work here >
As we move through the seasonal wheel, it’s important to adjust your beauty rituals to align with the cycles of nature.
– Consider creating a sacred retreat space in the comfort of your home for your beauty rituals.
– During the new moon, set intentions for new beginnings and personal growth. This lunar phase is an excellent time for Leo signs to connect with their higher selves and set beauty goals. (This is something I help with inside my course, Learn Makeup in 5 Days).
– Focus on warm, golden tones in your makeup. Incorporate more vibrant, fiery elements into your lineup. This alignment with nature’s rhythms can help you feel more balanced and in tune with your higher self. Surround yourself with these warm hues through your clothing, makeup, jewelry — even your bed sheets and pillowcase!
– Embrace ancient beauty rituals that have stood the test of time. Facial & body massages, for instance, not only improve your physical appearance but also provide a moment of mindfulness in your everyday life.
– Incorporate green tea into your skincare routine as a natural toner, offering antioxidant benefits.
– Join a nurturing community of beautiful souls for group Reiki sessions or beauty workshops. These can be done virtually, allowing you to connect with like-minded individuals from the comfort of your home. You can share beauty secrets, helpful tips, and support each other’s glow-up journeys.
Remember, as a Leo, your confidence is your most potent asset. Reinforce it daily with luxurious self-care practices that make you feel like the vibrant, confident person you are. Let your inner lioness roar with grace and power, and watch as your Leo energy transforms not just your beauty routine, but every aspect of your life.
By mastering these skills and incorporating these restorative rituals, you’ll be able to confidently choose when and how to wear makeup, knowing that your radiant Leo energy shines through regardless. This confidence will allow you to command attention and show up boldly in any situation, makeup or no makeup – truly embracing the spirit of the sign of Leo.
If you’re a Leo and feel stuck matching your inner confidence with your outer confidence, and you think makeup might be a possible solution, check out my Makeup Learning Lab here. I’ll teach you how to confidently apply makeup on your own terms, allowing you to express yourself boldly when you want to or choose to go bare-faced with equal assurance!
Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction.
