4 Makeup Ideas to Make Your Online Meetings Exciting

makeup ideas online meetings

With all of us staying indoors for the foreseeable future, many of us have had to adapt to a digital workforce—and that includes joining in online work meetings! Granted, you’re probably living in your sweatpants and pajamas at home, but this doesn’t mean you have to stop getting dolled up. While it’s easy to drop the ball with our beauty routines, fixing up one’s self is a way to keep feeling great about yourself even during these difficult times.

If you’re searching for some fresh makeup ideas to make your work-from-home setup more exciting, look no further. We’ve rounded up a list of looks you can try out at your next Zoom or Google Hangouts meeting!

1. The Brighter, The Better

No matter how high the resolution of your webcam is, video conference calls have a tendency to make anyone look washed out. A simple yet effective trick to help you not fade into your background is to make your cheeks and lips stand out. To give your cheeks a healthy glow, go for a cream blush that comes in bright pink shades — such as an eye-catching light pink color or a glowing coral pink hue. Of course, a classic red lip never goes out of style either. Fortunately, wearing this striking color shows a sense of professionalism even in the virtual office, so if you’ve ever wanted to try rocking this shade, now is the time!

2. Lift Your Lashes

A simple yet effective way to upgrade your makeup routine is to liven up your lashes. Just like we previously shared on our ‘Stuck in a Beauty Rut?’ post, curling your lashes can instantly change your look. Curled eyelashes are key to keeping your eyes looking bright and refreshed, so feel free to apply some mascara for more volume. As an added tip, Cosmopolitan recommends dusting a bit of setting powder to the tips of your lashes first to prevent any smudging.

3. Get Your Eyebrows Groomed

You want to typically avoid heavily filled and artificial-looking brows in real life — and the same holds true for online meetings too! Instead, opt for a polished yet structured look by grooming your eyebrows. Sleek brows will not only work wonders for your face frame, but they’re also easy to achieve since you’ll only need to trim them. Pretty Me’s guide to the basics of eyebrow grooming is a good place to start, especially if you’re used to relying on your go-to brow bar. First, you’ll need a spoolie brush and small pair of facial scissors. Then, use the spoolie to brush your brows upwards and the scissors to trim any hair that extends beyond your brow shape. Afterwards, you can apply a clear brow gel to keep them in place. That’s it!

4. Give Your Eyes That Extra Oomph

Last but not least, don’t forget to show your eyes some love. While your cheeks and lips call for shades that will make them pop, it’s best to stick to soft, light colors for your eye makeup. Don’t worry about it making you look dull on-camera, as these shades are actually better at catching the light. Plus, you can always do winged eyeliner for a subtle, dramatic effect. It goes without saying that this style is quite tricky, which is why Byrdie’s winged eyeliner feature highlights the importance of sketching out the eyeliner shape first. This way, you’ll have a solid base to trace and fill.

Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction.
